At Sree Abirami Institutions, we believe that true healthcare begins with self-care. In alignment with this philosophy, we were delighted to conduct a Yoga Orientation Program exclusively for our newly joined BSc Nursing freshers at the VISION Centre, Varadaraja Nagar.
The session, titled “Embracing Wellness”, was held on 12th March 2025 and led by the renowned Dr. S. Aruna, a passionate advocate of holistic well-being. The program was beautifully conceptualized and designed by SKY, Professor and Coordinator of the VISION Centre, with the intention of instilling the value of yoga as a lifestyle practice in the minds of our budding healthcare professionals.
Dr. Aruna began the session with an insightful introduction on the origin and purpose of yoga, touching upon its timeless relevance, especially in the lives of healthcare students and professionals. She highlighted the growing need for stress management, mental focus, and physical vitality in the demanding nursing field.
The session was interactive and immersive, featuring a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Students were introduced to fundamental asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), and dhyana (meditation). Dr. Aruna also shared real-life examples of how yoga has transformed lives, especially those under academic and professional stress.
The participants responded enthusiastically, demonstrating keen interest and active participation. Many students reported feeling more relaxed, centered, and energized after the session. This early exposure to yoga not only introduced them to a tool for personal wellness but also a valuable practice they can recommend and share with future patients.

The session ended with a guided meditation, leaving the students in a calm and peaceful state of mind. Dr. Aruna concluded with a gentle reminder: “In caring for others, never forget to care for yourself. Yoga is not just a practice, but a journey towards holistic well-being.”
The event was a resounding success, and we are proud to have introduced our students to the art and science of yoga as they embark on their noble journey of nursing. This initiative marks just the beginning of our commitment to nurturing emotionally resilient, mentally focused, and physically healthy nurses for tomorrow.
