NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY OBSERVATION-2023,SREE ABIRAMI COLLEGE OF NURSING,COIMBATORE.

The National Cancer Awareness Day 2023, observed by Sree Abirami College of Nursing in Coimbatore, was a significant event, emphasizing the theme “Prevention and Early Detection of Cancer.” This initiative was an integral part of the community’s commitment to enhancing knowledge, awareness, and action to promote health.
On November 7th, the morning session at Sree Abirami Hospital saw III BSc nursing students engaging in health education and poster presentations focused on “Prevention and Early Detection of Cancer.” This session was particularly impactful, offering valuable insights to the public and encouraging active participation.
The afternoon session on November 9th was a testament to the college’s dedication to spreading awareness. Dr. Manivannan Pandian, a renowned oncologist, along with Dr. Arvin Babu, the Administrative Dean of Abirami institutions, led an enlightening program at the Nursing College Auditorium. The event commenced with a prayer song followed by a welcome speech from Mrs. Nancy, a clinical instructor at the college. Dr. Pandian was warmly welcomed with a bouquet by the Administrative Dean.
Dr. Pandian’s lecture was a highlight of the day. His expertise as an Associate Professor and Medical Oncologist at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital shone through as he discussed the incidence of cancer nationally and state-wise, the risk factors, and the warning signs symbolized by the acronym CAUTION. His in-depth knowledge of benign vs malignant tumors and the various stages of cancer prevention was particularly enlightening.
His experience in treating a wide array of cancers, including gynecological, breast, prostate, gastrointestinal, and more, added depth to the discussion. Dr. Pandian also delved into the management aspects, explaining chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immune therapy, and targeted therapy, along with their effects and side effects.
An interactive live question session followed the presentation, which further engaged the students and broadened their understanding of cancer prevention and early detection. This interaction was a key component of the program, fostering a deeper interest and enriching the students’ perspectives.
As a gesture of gratitude, Dr. Pandian was presented with a memento. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Periyasamy, another clinical instructor at the college, and the National Anthem, marking the end of a successful and informative event.
This observation of National Cancer Awareness Day by Sree Abirami College of Nursing was a commendable effort in raising awareness among future healthcare professionals and the general public, underscoring the importance of early detection and prevention in the battle against cancer.
