SREE ABIRAMI COLLEGE AND SCHOOL OF NURSING, COIMBATORELAMP LIGHTING CEREMONY-December 2023

Nursing is the only profession that follows lamp lighting ceremony. Here light not only symbolizes knowledge which removes ignorance and is a lasting wealth by which lots could be achieved but it also signifies the enlightenment, experience, hope, love, comfort and positivity driving away the negativity that darkens everything. The oath taken by every nursing professional signifies discharge of their duties with complete honesty, integrity and without any discrimination. It’s well said that if you light a lamp for someone else it will also brighten your path and there are only two ways of spreading the light either to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.
On December 12, 2023, Sree Abirami College and School of Nursing held its 16th Lamp Lighting Ceremony. Approximately 140 first-year nursing students (B.Sc. (N)-100, GNM-40) and their parents attended this momentous event.
The college choir opened the programme with a prayer song. Professor Magarani then gave the welcoming address, and all of the dignitaries received bouquets and shawls as a sign of respect. Dr. P. Aruna, MBBS, DPH, Deputy Director of Health Services, Coimbatore, was the chief guest of the evening. Dr. P. Periyaswamy, Chairman; Dr.Kundavi Devi, Dr.R. Senthilkumar, Dr. P. Balamurugan, Dr. Uma Devi, and Dr. Sucharitha, Directors of Sree Abirami Institutions; and the Chief Guest lit the kuthuvizhakku to begin the programme.
The Legends in the nursing field, including Dr. Arvin Babu, Dean;
Dr. R. Renuka, Principal; Prof. R. Gandhimathi, Vice Principal; and
Dr. Sree Renjini, Professor, Sree Abirami College of Nursing, passed on the Light to all of the Novel Nursing students.
In addition, this ceremony offers a chance to remember, reintegrate, and commemorate the services Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing, provided to the poor and suffering. All first-year nursing students took the “Nurses Pledge,” which was led by Principal Dr. R. Renuka, and all budding nurses dedicated themselves to the nursing profession in front of their parents with prayer of dedication. Lighting the Lamp by our Nursing students signifies “admitting themselves to take their responsibilities in taking care of patients with Love and bringing Light in their lives.”
In addition to serving as the function’s chairman, Dr. P. Periyaswamy also gave the presidential address. Dr. P. Aruna, the day’s chief guest and deputy director of health services, spoke about the importance of nurses in the health care system and their responsibility for the public’s health. Dr. R. Senthilkumar, Dr.P. Balamurugan, and Dr. Arvin Babu the dean of administration and Prof. Jayabharathi Dean of academic affairs at Sree Abirami Institutions, also gave special speeches during the event.
During the blessing speech, the parents of the GNM and B.Sc. students were informed about their responsibilities as well as those of the students, including how to work together, obey teachers and elders, understand the roles of student nurses, and what expectations parents have of their children.
At 4:30 p.m., the programme was concluded with a vote of gratitude from Dr.SreeRenjini, the professor, and the national anthem.
