WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY OBSERVATION – ‘’OUR MINDS, OUR RIGHTS’’-SREE ABIRAMI COLLEGE OF NURSING.

Theme: “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right.”

The event aimed to raise awareness and promote actions that support and protect the mental health of all individuals as a universal human right. The day’s activities included a series of events and discussions focused on mental health.

Morning Session:
The day started with a poster presentation competition on mental health at 10:00 a.m. Students from various departments, including AHS, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Occupational Therapy, participated. Prizes were awarded to the best poster presentations. Following this, a debate took place, moderated by Dean Dr. Arvin Babu. One group of students argued for the feasibility of maintaining good mental health in the current scenario, while another group presented the challenges of maintaining quality mental health in today’s world based on real-life experiences.

Afternoon Session:
The seminar began at 3:00 p.m. and featured distinguished guests, including Dr. Senthil Kumar and Dr. Balamurugan from Sree Abirami Institution. The guest speaker, Dr. Jeyan, a consultant psychiatrist from Sree Abirami Hospital, was joined by Dr. Arvin Babu, the Dean of Abirami Institution, and Dr. Renuka, Principal of Sree Abirami College of Nursing. The program opened with a prayer song and a welcome speech by Prof. Magarani of Sree Abirami College of Nursing.

Enlightening Discussion:
The seminar focused on the topic of “DRUG ADDICTION,” with Dr. Jeyan, a consultant psychiatrist, emphasizing the negative effects of drug use. He discussed various addiction-related issues, and prevention strategies, and shared case histories and real-life experiences of his patients. The session included an interactive live question-and-answer session, which provided students with an opportunity to expand their understanding of addiction.

Empowering Words:
The program was facilitated by Dr. Balamurugan and Dr. Senthil Kumar, who offered valuable suggestions, inspiration, and insights to the audience, guiding the overall direction of the day’s discussions.

Conclusion:
After the event, the chief guest was presented with a memento as a token of appreciation. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Synthia, an Assistant Professor at Sree Abirami College of Nursing. The National Anthem marked the end of this enlightening and insightful day, which aimed to increase awareness and understanding of mental health as a universal human right.
